Fire At Hong Fu Restaurant Causes Temporary Closure

A hot oil fire Thursday night shut down the restaurant on Friday.

A kitchen fire caused by hot oil in Hong Fu Restaurant Thursday night shut down the restaurant Friday.

A sign out front told customers that the restaurant was temporarily closed for maintenance.

Santa Clara County Fire Department responded to a call that came in shortly before 4 p.m. Thursday. The Fire Department’s arson investigator determined that the fire was accidental and caused by hot cooking oil set in a cardboard box, a spokesperson said.

The fire department dispatched nine engines, which left the restaurant about 7:30 p.m. There were no injuries.

Damage was minimal and the restaurant will reopen Saturday, a spokesman said.
