Apartment Complex Fire Displaces Around 60 People

The Red Cross has an evacuation center at Homestead High School.

A fire in a Cupertino apartment complex on Saturday evening destroyed four units and damaged another 12, according to the San Jose Mercury News. It has left between 50 and 60 residents of the Village Green Apartments on Homestead Road homeless for the time being.

The Mercury News reports that the fire was caused when a woman cooking French fries forgot about them. According to the Merc, firefighters had the blaze under control by 7.50 p.m. There were no injuries.

The Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents and has opened an evacuation center at Homestead High School, 21370 Homestead Road.
