[Editor's Note: The ruptured gas line has been repaired]
Someone digging a hole for a mailbox post struck a gas line in Cupertino Wednesday afternoon, a PG&E spokeswoman said.
The half-inch plastic gas line was ruptured in the 11000 block of Firethorne Drive around 2:20 p.m. PG&E crews arrived at 2:52 p.m., utility spokeswoman Nicole Liebelt said.
The leak was capped and the the line repaired, she said. Service was only affected at one home.
The third-party crew struck the line while digging a hole to erect a mailbox post, Liebelt said.
PG&E had not been notified about the digging.
"We always encourage any excavators... to always call 811," she said.
