Mountain Lion Killed on 280

The early morning crash blocked one lane of the freeway.

A mountain lion was killed on northbound Interstate 280 south of Magdalena in Los Altos Hills Monday morning.

A driver called 911 at 6:07 a.m. to report that they had hit the mountain lion and it was blocking the number three lane.

The driver initially pulled over but left the scene before a California Highway Patrol car arrived. CHP Officer Ron Simmons told Patch that the driver did everything right, “Because there isn’t another person involved, they were not required to stop. But this person stopped, called us—important because the mountain lion was initially blocking a lane.”

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife is responsible for retrieving the big cat.
