The outage was apparently caused when a car collided into a pole on Homestead Road near Wright Avenue, Morris said. Tree branches came down in the accident as well, bringing down wires, she said.
The accident took place in Sunnyvale near the Cupertino-Los Altos-Sunnyvale borders, but customers in Cupertino were most affected by the outage, Morris said.

By about 4:40 a.m. nearly half of the affected customers had their power restored, she said. As of 5:30 a.m., all but 1,547 customers had their power restored. The last 234 customers were brought back on line about 9:53 a.m., she said.
Crews are expected to be on scene until 3:30 p.m., however, completing repairs to the lines and equipment on the pole, which is shared with the telephone company, Morris said.
