Recent Fires Cause Damage but No Injuries

A house fire and a vehicle fire caused thousands of dollars of damage, but no one was hurt.

Two fires occurred in Cupertino within the last week; one in a house near De Anza College, the other in a vehicle on Interstate 280 near Highway 85.

Santa Clara County Fire Department got a call a little before 9 p.m. on April 19 that a house on Pepper Tree Lane was on fire, a spokesperson said. Fire officials cleared the area shortly after 10 p.m. There were no injuries.

The cause of fire is undetermined at this time, officials said, but there was an electric smoldering fire in the blown-in insulation in the attic above a light fixture. About $3,000 of damage occurred to the home with an additional loss of about $500 in personal property.

In the other incident, a Mazda MPV minivan that on I-280 near Hwy. 85 on Monday was reported on fire during rush hour, with the call coming in to the fire department at about 5:30 p.m. It was a single vehicle incident and no injuries were reported.

Estimated damages to the minivan are $6,000 with an additional $1,000 in content loss.
