Sunnyvale Woman Hit and Killed By Motor Home While Walking Near Homestead High School

Police identified Parvathy Subramanian, 74, as the woman who was killed by a hit-and-run driver Wednesday morning.

The Santa Clara County medical examiner's office has identified a woman who was killed near Homestead High School by a hit-and-run driver on Wednesday as Parvathy Subramanian.

Subramanian, 74, of Sunnyvale, was walking on a sidewalk near Homestead Road and Mary Avenue when a motor home hit her from behind around 7:10 a.m., said Dave Verbrugge, Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety captain.

The driver fled, but officers later tracked him down at a nearby shopping center and arrested him. He has been identified as Harold Newby Jr., 62, of Sunnyvale.

Firefighters and paramedics responded and transported Subramanian to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

Officers are investigating the circumstances of the collision and have not yet determined whether Newby was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
