Two men allegedly broke into a home on the 10500 block of Cordova Road in Cupertino Tuesday morning and fled the scene by the time sheriff’s deputies arrived.
The call came in to dispatchers at about 10:07 a.m. and police arrived on the scene—a home off of S. Foothill and Stevens Creek Boulevards—in about five minutes, according to Santa Clara County Sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Jose Cardoza.
According to the San Jose Mercury News a teenage girl was home alone at the time of the break-in. She called 911 when she heard voices. The men were attempting to break in to the side garage door, Cardoza said in a statement.
The girl hid in her room while the suspects stole some belongings before leaving.
"It happened fast, they go in, look around real quick, then walk outside," Cardoza told the Merc.
The Merc also reported that the girl thought the men had left the home and called 911 again, but apparently the suspects heard her talking and came back in the house to confront her and take other items.
By the time police arrived and searched the house the burglars were nowhere in sight. Deputies used dogs and a neighborhood search within a perimeter to locate the suspects, but found nothing after about 90 minutes.
A composite sketch of the one suspect is attached to this article. Both men are described as black adult males in their early 20s between 5-feet 10-inches and 6-feet tall, and between 165 to 185 pounds. One man had a shaved hairstyle with a medium complexion, the other had an afro-style with a medium complexion.
