UPDATED: Fire on Country Club Drive in Los Altos Early this Morning

A fire on Country Club Drive was reported in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Update, 10:55 a.m.:

Neighbors, the Barnes family, credit their black poodle Eva with saving their house. They say, the fire could have easily spread to their home if the dog hadn't alerted them to the blaze.

Barnes said Eva began barking around 4:30 a.m., alerting her husband to the fire next door, and he called it in to the County Fire Department.

Then, he started hosing the roof down until firefighters arrived at the scene.

Barnes said her husband saw flames shooting up over the roof of the carriage house. The fire was already going strong.

A row of three juniper trees, approximately 50 feet tall, stand along the back of the carriage house. One of the trees—which stands less than 25 feet away from the Barnes' home next door—was lit up like a torch.

"Our whole yard was lit up bright as day—except it was red," said Barnes.

Thanks to Eva the dog, the fire was put out before it could spread to the Barnes' home next door.

"She saved our house!" Barnes said.
