Village Green Apartments Suffers Fire Damage

A Sunday afternoon fire in the middle of an 8-unit causes $400,000 in losses.

A fire that broke out in an apartment complex on Homestead Road caused extensive damage to an eight-plex unit Sunday afternoon.

Officials responded to a call that came in at about 2:25 p.m. to the Village Green Apartments located at 21230 Homestead Road, next to Homestead High School. Firefighters reported seeing a plume of smoke on their approach, then flames shooting from the balcony and front door of a middle unit.

The fire, believed to have started in a kitchen, was unintentional and caused $350,000 in property damage and about $50,000 in contents loss.

Firefighters from Sunnyvale and San Jose assisted in putting out the blaze that was knocked down by about 6:37 p.m.

A report of a baby still inside one of the units was unfounded.

Red Cross provided medical assistance to one family, fire officials said, but no serious injuries were reported.

Displaced residents evacuated to Homestead High School and are now being assisted by the apartment’s property management.
