The Winter Holiday Anti-DUI crackdown has resulted in a significant number of driving under the influence (DUI) arrests from local routine traffic enforcement and special “Avoid the 13” DUI deployments during the past several days in Santa Clara County.
While complete results are not yet available, pending results from some agencies, preliminary numbers show that from 12:01 a.m. Friday, Dec. 14, through midnight Saturday, Dec. 29, officers representing Santa Clara County law enforcement agencies arrested 353 individuals for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. In 2011, 349 DUI arrests occurred during the same sixteen day time period.
For the New Year’s Eve holiday weekend extra DUI Saturation Patrols are deployed in the cities of Mountain View, Los Altos, Palo Alto, Santa Clara, San Jose, Cupertino, Gilroy, Morgan Hill, and the town of Los Gatos.
The CHP also is deploying all available officers for their Maximum Enforcement Period during the New Year’s holiday weekend through midnight Tuesday, Jan. 1.
All regularly scheduled traffic and patrol officers are focusing their efforts at stopping and arresting DUI drivers during their normal shifts. Multiple DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoints, Multi Agency DUI Task Force operations and local Roving DUI patrols are all part of this region-wide crackdown during the Winter Holiday Campaign.
Police, Sheriff and the CHP officials are encouraging all motorists to help make their communities safer by calling 9-1-1 to report drunk drivers.
Funding for this program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
