Bicycle Pedestrian Bridge Will Go Dark for Earth Hour

Residents are encouraged to turn off their own lights in support of Earth Hour on Saturday.

As a visible commitment to sustainable operations, and to promote efficiency throughout the community, Cupertino will participate in Earth Hour by turning off the accent lights at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday. Built in 2009, this landmark bridge is the western gateway to Silicon Valley.

Lighting costs can account for nearly 10 percent of household energy costs and up to 40 percent of a business’ energy expenses. Actions of this type continued year round, can have significant benefits to the environment, and a home or business’ bottom line.  The City of Cupertino encourages residents to take part in action this Earth Hour.

Held the last Saturday of March each year, Earth Hour is a global event organized by the World Wildlife Fund to encourage households and businesses to turn off their lights for one hour to raise awareness and promote action to address climate change.
