founder and CEO Steve Jobs made a surprise appearance at the start of the meeting Tuesday night to apprise the council of plans to move forward with a new headquarters on the Hewlett-Packard property, which will be vacated by H-P next year.
"We want to submit plans fairly quickly, break ground next year and move in by 2015," Jobs told the council.
Councilwoman Kris Wang thanked Jobs for coming and told him that "we're proud of Apple."
Jobs replied, "I'm proud to be in Cupertino, too."
Apple's CEO has been out on medical leave since January but recently made an appearance at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference to make the announcement of the .
