Candidate Forum to be Held at Cupertino Community Hall Friday Night
State Senate and Assembly candidates will focus on education and education funding.
A forum for State Senate and Assembly candidates gives voters in Cupertino and surrounding areas an opportunity to ask questions of the candidates in a Friday night assembly at Cupertino Community Hall.
This forum, which will be livecast online, will focus on education and education funding issues and is the first to take into account the “top-two” open primaries format along with the newly redistricted Assembly and Senate seats.
As a result of redistricting, Cupertino falls in Assembly District 28 and Senate District 15. (Redrawn districts can be found at HealthyCity.org.)

Assembly district candidates who will be at the forum include incumbent Assemblymember Paul Fong (D-Palo Alto) who represents currently drawn District 22, and Los Gatos resident Chad Walsh.
Senate district candidates who will be at the forum include Jim Beall, current Assemblymember representing District 24, and Joe Coto, a former State Assemblymember.

Assembly districts represented at this forum include Sunnyvale, Cupertino, Campbell, Los Gatos, and parts of San Jose. Senate districts represented at the forum cover most of Santa Clara County except for portions of South County as well as areas to the east.
Other candidates expected at the forum include Christopher Kent Chiang, former State Assemblmember Sally J. Lieber, Assemblymember for District 19 Jerry Hill (D-San Mateo), and John H. Webster, who are running for State Senate District 13.
Candidates for State Assembly District 24 include Geby E. Espinosa, Joseph Antonelli Rosas, Richard S. Gordon, and Chengzhi "George" Yang, will also be at the forum.
Cupertino City Councilman Rod Sinks will moderate the event that begins with a 6:30 p.m. reception followed by an introduction by League of Women Voters, then a education funding overview by Polly Bove, superintendent of Fremont Union High School District.
From 7:15 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. candidates for Assembly Districts 24 and 28 will be given time for opening statements, question and answer period, and closing statements.
From 8:20 p.m. to 9:20 p.m. State Senate Districts 13 and 15 candidates will be allowed time for opening statements, question and answer period, and closing statements.
