Orrin Mahoney Adds a New Credential: Thespian

The Mandarin play, 'Soaring Over a Century,' based on the history of the Republic of China, has a bit part for the Cupertino councilman.

There's one more reason to see , the Mandarin play at the San Jose Repertory Theatre Aug. 6-7—to see Orrin Mahoney, Cupertino city councilman, in his debut performance.

"I will play a Flying Tiger pilot that rescues the main character during World War II," he says. "I play the pilot 60 years later when they reunite. It's a brief, non-speaking role, but it should be fun."

Mahoney was "drafted" for the part by Joyce Hsu, the Palo Alto playwright who wrote Soaring Over a Century. They met in 2006 at an annual Cupertino Rotary event, Global Elegance—then called Eastern Elegance—at Hsu's Atherton's estate.
