In what can typically be a rather humdrum event Mayor Mark Santoro entertained the audience during his State of the City address Wednedsay with his juggling mastery and command of the yo yo. (Editor's note: More juggling and yo yo tricks are on a separate video attached to the article, "Mayor Santoro's Juggling Act: State of the City 'Good'".)
When most had left the Quinlan Center following his speech, Santoro stuck around to impart his juggling and yo yo expertise on a couple of eager students: Vice Mayor Orrin Mahoney and John Zirelli, president of Recology and board member of Cupertino Chamber of Commerce.
Mahoney was clearly the better student. Zirelli? Well, maybe he better stick to running Recology.
(Gentlemen: Thanks for being such good sports on this!)
Cupertino is great on serving the needs of small groups of residents but extremely short on serving the need of the Community as a whole. I hope our new mayor will demonstrate selfless leadership that emphasizes serving the needs of the greater community at large. I think his monthly meeting with the Mayor is a huge step in the right direction. It is important that he demonstrate a real connection with the community, something that I feel was totally lacking from the last couple of mayorships.
