The has added bicycle lanes to the stretch of roadway that connects the downtown to and Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority played a part in making that happen.
VTA's Bicycle Technical Guidelines is the bicycle component of the Santa Clara County’s Long Range Transportation Plan, which allocates $165 million to fund 80 bicycle projects between 2010 and 2035.
Today, VTA officials announced that the public transportation company is looking for public comment on its 2012 update to the guidelines. The deadline to submit is Sept. 15.
"We want to hear from the users," said VTA Spokeswoman Brandi Childress. "We want to hear from the people in the community using bikes everyday to better provide connectivity and safer pathways throughout the county."
Along with the E. Campbell Avenue Improvement Project, Campbell is also extending the Los Gatos Creek Trail on its west side, with the help of VTA funds. The first project costs an estimated $1.5 million and the latter $2.5 million.
"VTA works with cities to provide a guideline for their planning efforts when they are doing any kind of public project so that there's connectivity and consistency," Childress said. "VTA is an integral part in helping these projects get funded."
Along with the two in Campbell, VTA is also helping fund projects, including the Mary Bridge Bicycle and Pedestrian Overcrossing in Cupertino, the Uvas Creek Trail feasibility study in Gilroy and the Adobe Creek Bicycle/Pedestrian Bridge Replacement in Los Altos.
"Public comment is always important, particularly when it comes to providing better, safer bike paths," she said.
