With a week of hot temps upon us, there's no better time to get serious about staying cool. Drink plenty of water, stay out of the sun during the hottest parts of the day, wear sunscreen, and taste test the many flavors of ice cream available in 95014.
Donut Wheel, a Cupertino staple since the 1950s, serves Marianne's ice cream 24/7 (in addition to donuts and coffee). Recent flavors included mint chip, bubble gum, blueberry and cream, and oreo cookie. Just $1.75 will get you a junior scoop in a sugar cone or cup, and an additional fifty cents will buy you a waffle cone.

For some out-of-the-sun-fun, hit Homestead Lanes for a few games and an ice cream snack. They're open until midnight during the week, and until 2AM on Friday and Saturday.
Baskin Robbins is a bit tricky to get to these days, with the construction on DeAnza, but has those classic 31-derful flavors to cool you off. Did you know that Baskin-Robbins invented Praline's 'n Cream? Lunar Cheesecake actually has bits of cheesecake in the ice cream. The kids liked cotton candy. For me, in this heat, orange is always a sherbet.

For something a bit different, and yummy, head over to Bitter+ Sweet near the Cupertino Library. Owner Janice Chua brings in artisan ice creams from San Francisco's Humphry Slocombe. The P.O.G. (passionfruit, orange, and guava) is chillingly relaxing. Tahitian Vanilla and Bittersweet Chocolate are traditional, and yet not. And for those of you looking for a bit of salty and sweet, try the After School Special.
