DAR brings holiday cheer to Veterans

The Santa Clara Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution donated over 100 stuffed stockings to the Palo Alto Veteran's Hospital.

Over one hundred Christmas stockings were stuffed with joy this afternoon, and are on their way to Palo Alto's Veterans Hospital. The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Santa Clara Chapter, met at Cupertino's Blue Pheasant restaurant to fill the hand-made stockings with toiletries and treats. NSDAR member Lynn Robinson noted that the Chapter has been donating stockings to the Veterans Hospital since 2005. The Captain Matthew Ramsay Chapter of the Children of the American Revolution Society also donates stuffed stockings to the Hospital. Toiletries are donated throughout the year by NSDAR Chapter members. Some ladies are also members of the Chapter's Pins and Needles group, which actually makes and sews the stockings. Other members donate fabric, candies, or money for supplies. DAR Service for Veterans Chairperson Carol Crown collected additional donations for the Palo Alto Veterans Hospital, including new games and crossword puzzle books, more than one hundred books (including books on tape), and phone cards which allow Veterans Hospital patients to speak with their loved ones.
