Apple's iPhone Back-to-School offer: $50 at the App Store

College parents: Something to consider if a Samsung Galaxy was on the list?

Written by L.A. Chung

NBC Bay Area is reporting that Apple's back-to-school offers has an enticement for those who buy an iPhone 5, 4S or 4: a $50 App Store gift certificate.

Many, including NBC Bay Area, observe that it marks the first time the company has offered that on the phone, and some speculate that it is a way to clear inventory on the iPhone 5, which has to make way for the new iPhone, yet to be announced. Take that, Samsung Galaxy S4!

You have to be a college student or the parent of a college student to qualify. Teachers, of course, have more leeway. Faculty and staff from any grade level can qualify.
