Cupertino High Has 13 National Merit Scholarship Finalists

The list of finalists was released in early February to high schools.

The 2013 annual National Merit Scholarship Corporation finalist list was released this week to high schools across the nation and Cupertino High School's 13 semifinalists all moved on to the finalist stage.

The full list of students who attend Cupertino schools or live in the city can be found here.

There were about 16,000 semifinalists, and the program expected about 15,000 of those students to advance to the finalist level.

More than half of the finalists will go on to compete for a Merit Scholar® title and portion of the National Merit Scholarship worth more than $32 million.

About 1.5 million juniors at more than 22,000 high schools nationwide entered the 2013 competition. Honors for the award are based on “exceptional academic ability”, and “potential for success in rigorous college studies” the organization said in a statement.
