Day of Action in Photos

Wet weather didn't deter De Anza College students and faculty from marching in Sacramento.

Thousands of-Foothill College students, faculty and other education supporters gathered in Sacramento March 14 in an annual “Day of Action” march to plead with state legislators to avoid further cuts in higher education funding.

In 2003 students took to the streets in the state's capitol to fight against proposed funding cuts by then-Gov. Gray Davis. Students and schools face an uphill battle to protect allocations. Already the community college system faces $290 million reduction in 2011-12 and another $129 million in 2012-13.

If Gov. Jerry Brown’s tax extension loses out, colleges such as De Anza—which is now on spring break—could be forced to cut back on classes and raise tuition.
