De Anza College's Katie Castro Wins 2012 Cross Country Championship

Casto leads Lady Dons to fourth-place finish in the state.

Former Los Gatos High School wildcat Katie Castro, a sophomore at De Anza College, finished an impressive season of running for the Lady Dons, winning the individual California State Championship on Saturday, Nov. 17.

The competition took place at Woodward Park in Fresno, and Castro in dominating fashion took top honors while leading the De Anza women's team to a fourth-place finish in the state.

Castro won the race in soggy conditions on the 5K course in a time of 17:44:98, more than 28 seconds ahead of the closest competitor.

Castro, an All-American and Academic All-State athlete, is the first individual Cross Country State Champion in De Anza College history, according to her father Mike Castro.
