Young Genius Educational Academy is conducting one of the strongest Speech & Debate programs in the Bay Area. The clear intent of our classes is to prepare students to compete in Middle and High School tournaments held in the Bay Area.
We encourage our students to participate in tournaments, but it not necessary.
From June 25th to July 6 we are have a speech/debate camp for beginners, which will feature an introduction to debate.

After our Speech & Debate course, students enhance their reading comprehension and writing skills as well as increase GPA. When you put a record of your participation in Speech/Debate tournaments on your high school or college application, it will give you greater chance to be accepted by a desirable school. With debate training, students score higher on SAT and other standardized tests.

Minh A. Luong, an Associate Director at Yale University says: " In my opinion, there is no better activity that will develop essential academic, professional, and life skills than dedicated involvement in speech and debate.Colleges and employers are actively seeking these skills and when it comes to selecting extracurricular activities, like many other things in life, those savvy high school students who will win admission to the best schools will select quality over quantity." http://www.nflonline.org/uploads/Rostrum/crnov00_luongcollegeadmissions.pdf

It's difficult to know what's going on in a kid's mind unless they feel confident enough to open upRead More and talk. And this program helps us adults to learn to listen differently.

I too was at this Challenge Day. It was my 6th. I first volunteered because I watched the programRead More on MTV "If You Really Knew Me" when my son was being severely bullied in middle school and saw the program was offered when he was a freshman in high school. My company strongly supports me volunteering for this and allows me to take the day off work to attend. I am continually humbled by what these teens share and saddened at what some of them have experienced in their short lives. This program is so valuable. I think every school should offer it and every parent should attend. It helps us to realize that we need to think twice before we judge or assume things about others when we know nothing about them. It is the volunteering opportunity that I look forward to participating in every year.
