Grab and Go Kids Planner for March 9-13

A day for young women who are aspiring engineers, a morning in the salt marsh, parenting yoga, another look at the stars and a children's plays are some of the offerings in and around Cupertino this week.

Wondering what you can do with your kids this week that will be fun for them and for you? We've got a couple of ideas here that will expose your kids to the world of books, a few science adventures and more. 

We've done the research, we've done your homework, and we're ready to give you our suggestions for some activities you can do for and with your child this week.

Where/When: San Jose State University, with the student chapter of the Society of Women Engineers. Saturday, 9 a.m.to 3 p.m.

Why Go:  This is a day-long event for high school girls who might be interested in a career in engineering, and their parents. Go and find out if engineering might be right for her. And you as the parent, encourage your daughter to dream and succeed! You'll get to tour the School of Engineering, meet with university students who are already on their way, and more.

Where/When: , 500 Castro St., Mountain View.  Thursday, 9:30 a.m.; Friday, 9:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.;  Saturday, 2 and 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday, 1 p.m.

Why Go: To support Peninsula Youth Theater and see a fantastic performance of Annie Get Your Gun. Another plus, you will probably be able to sing along (at least in your head) with a lot of the songs written by the great Irving Berlin.  Here's just a few: There's No Business Like Show Business, Doin’ What Comes Natur’lly, They Say It's Wonderful and Anything You Can Do.

Where/When: , 21250 Stevens Creek Blvd. (Fujitsu Planetarium). Saturday, 5, 6 and 7:30 p.m.

Why Go: Three different star shows for the next two Saturdays, then the planetarium closes until September. So don't miss out on one of these last three opportunities for a night of star gazing with your children.

Pricing:  $7

Where/When: Home of Hsiang-Hsui Lin. Tuesdays, 11 a.m. to noon. Call 408-876-0210 for location. 

Why Go:  What a great concept for stay-at-home parents and children who are not yet in school. This can be a totally different yoga experience for you and for your child.

Pricing: $20 per session or $180 for 10 sessions

Where/When: , 1751 Grand Blvd, Alviso. Saturday, 10 a.m. to noon.

Why Go: Want to find out more about the salt marsh and the creatures that you can't always see at first glance? There are all kinds of monster bacteria hiding away, out of sight, but always there. Microbial ecologist Dr. Wayne Lanier will take everyone on a short hike where you will get to use field microscopes to take an up-close-and-personal look at this tiny world. Ages 8 and up.
