It was an evening of recognition and celebration in honor of Day's spectacular individual performance against Los Altos last season.

In a 54-25 victory for the Vikings, Day carried the ball 16 times for a whopping 262 yards, averaging 16.38 yards per carry and reaching the end zone four times. His longest rush of 88 yards punctuated a breakout game for Day, who had only scored once in all previous outings.

The Lynbrook Viking Football team was invited to attend the Sabercats game, and many players and coaches had an close-up view of the action on the field, an exciting game between the Sabercats and the Spokane Shock of Washington.

At half time, Day and two other local players were shown on the Jumbotron, each given a plaque. Day was named the Offensive Player of the Week, while the two other players received separate honors for defensive and all-around efforts on the field.

After the award ceremony, each player’s highlight tape was projected on the big screen. Day’s was a whirlwind of breakaway runs, acrobatic interceptions, and swift cuts seemingly pulled straight out of a video game.

The night was a glimpse into the future for Day and the Vikings, who hope to improve upon a disappointing 4-6 record last season. With consistent performances like the one against Los Altos, Eric Day could help propel Lynbrook to a winning record in next season’s campaign.

Who knows, maybe this time next year, a new player will be honored from Lynbrook and the next group of teammates will be cheering him on from Section 112 in the HP Pavilion?
