Three Area Educators Named Teachers of the Year

Ami Byrne, Nelda Clark and Mike Davey were among 31 educators named the Santa Clara County Office of Education 2012 Teachers of the Year.

Three local teachers can add a new accomplishment to their already stellar resumes: Santa Clara County 2012 Teachers of the Year.

Ami Byrne of Eisenhower Elementary School, Nelda Clark of Lynbrook High School and Mike Davey of Saratoga High School were among 31 elementary, middle and high school educators chosen to receive the distinction, according to a press release sent out by the Santa Clara County of Education.

Byrne, a 5th grade teacher, got her classroom chops in Gilroy before heading to the Cupertino Union School District. This last school year was her eighth at Eisenhower, though next year she'll be moving on to teach eighth grade social studies at .

"I feel truly overwhelmed to be selected by my colleagues," she said of the honor. "When I first received the news, my knees literally buckled. To be singled out and noticed, by other amazing teachers, is the true reward."

Clark is an English teacher at the Fremont High School Union School District high school and chair of the English department.

Davey was named the . He’s been at Saratoga for 10 years, teaching social studies and coaching basketball.

Honorees were selected by their school districts based on each teacher’s dedication to students, classroom skill and commitment to life-long learning, the release states.

A special Teacher Recognition Celebration will fete the educators’ achievement September 27.
