What Makes Her Whizzy: Janaye was awarded the Jay Lawson Award given for “Outstanding Dedication to Athletics.” It is given to “an athlete that displays dedication and devotion to a sport, team, and school, and has improved themselves through hard work and effort while demonstrating exemplary sportsmanship.”

Typically it is awarded to one boy and one girl, but it seems Janaye stole the show this year as the sole recipient. Awards were presented May 19.

Not only that, but she was also rewarded as one of the MVP’s in five—yes, five—sports: softball, volleyball, basketball, soccer, and track and field.

You may have seen Janaye on Cupertino Patch recently as she was one of five students—one of the Five Cheeses—who organized and created a native garden at the school which was named the . Marilyn Lawson—mother to Jay Lawson and wife to Sam Lawson, for whom the school was named—was a favorite teacher at the school who loved gardening.

Congratulations Janaye!

Editor's note: Janaye is the daughter of Alysa Sakkas, Cupertino Patch's Moms Council leader...but, that had no influence on making Janaye this week's Whiz Kid choice because c'mon, when a kid gets that many awards in one fell swoop you have to admit, she's whizzy!
