Earthquake Rocks Bowlmor Wednesday, Soccer Style

A season kick-off event to honor season ticket holders brought out excited fans, team.

The San Jose Earthquakes continued their “March to Soccer” campaign on Wednesday night, packing fans into an exclusive event at Cupertino’s Bowlmor Lanes for a fun-filled night of bowling, auctions, and autographs.

The two-hour evening event was an invite-only affair for 2013 season ticket holders in anticipation of the Earthquake’s season opener on Sunday at Buckshaw Stadium vs. Real Salt Lake.

Fans were greeted with free drinks, raffle tickets for prizes, bowling passes, and a 2012-highlights DVD—a reminder of the Earthquake’s 2012 success when the team brought home the Supporter’s Shield, the reward for being the best regular-season team in the Major League Soccer.

Every player attended the event, and fans were given the opportunity to take pictures, ask for autographs, and engage in “Q & A” sessions with the coaches and members of the front office.

Chris Wondolowski, the MLS’ leading scorer last year, was eager to meet fans just days after signing a long-term deal that made him the team’s second “designated player” in franchise history. He answered every question cheerfully and said that he “can’t wait to go out there and get things going” for Sunday’s game.

Team president Dave Kaval, echoing his star forward, told fans; “I’m proud to lead this organization. I’m thrilled everyone is here, you truly are the best fans.” With a new stadium set to open off Coleman Road in San Jose next year, both Kaval and the fans are eager to build on the success the club had last season.

Bowlmor Lanes and their staff provided the perfect venue for the event, transforming the bowling alley into a fan’s dream destination. Blue and white—Earthquake colors—balloons lined the crowded lanes, video montages of the Earthquakes flashed on the big screens, and everything from game-worn shoes to autographed posters were up for silent auction.

The entire roster took a 2013 team photo at the end of the night, with fans cheering and screaming in excitement as each player was introduced. Fans, players, and the organization have high hopes for the upcoming season, and the Earthquakes and Bowlmor Lanes gave season ticket holders a night to remember, making sure that the “March to Soccer” continues on strong for Sunday’s game.
