Giants World Series Trophy Heading to Redwood City

The trophy tour is underway and will make a stop in Redwood City this week.

Are you a die-hard Giants fan?

If so, you're going to want to mark your calendar, and warn your boss you'll be taking an extra-long lunch break—the San Francisco Giants' 2010 and 2012 World Series Trophies, currently on tour, are making a stop in Redwood City very soon.

As a city which features a Junior Giants youth baseball program, Redwood City was honored with a spot on this year's tour, which is sponsored by Bank of America. Redwood City is one of the only cities on the Peninsula that will get a stop on the trophy tour, along with East Palo Alto and Daly City.

The two trophies will be on display Friday, Jan. 25 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Courthouse Square, 2200 Broadway in downtown.

"It was really important to us this time, given a second opportunity, to create a trophy tour which allowed us to connect with our fans, as well as the more than 20,000 kids who participate in our Junior Giants baseball program," said Larry Baer, Giants president and chief operating officer.

At each viewing event, fans will have the chance to have their photo taken with the trophies—created by Tiffany & Co.—and support their local Junior Giants Baseball League by optionally making a suggested $2 donation to the program.

For more information, visit the trophy tour website.

It's difficult to know what's going on in a kid's mind unless they feel confident enough to open upRead More and talk. And this program helps us adults to learn to listen differently.

I too was at this Challenge Day. It was my 6th. I first volunteered because I watched the programRead More on MTV "If You Really Knew Me" when my son was being severely bullied in middle school and saw the program was offered when he was a freshman in high school. My company strongly supports me volunteering for this and allows me to take the day off work to attend. I am continually humbled by what these teens share and saddened at what some of them have experienced in their short lives. This program is so valuable. I think every school should offer it and every parent should attend. It helps us to realize that we need to think twice before we judge or assume things about others when we know nothing about them. It is the volunteering opportunity that I look forward to participating in every year.
