GIRLS BASKETBALL: Lynbrook Bows Out in CCS Semifinals

Lady Vikings fall to perennial power Mitty in Division II semis.

 One West Catholic League opponent toppled, but another even stronger foe awaited the Lynbrook High girls basketball team two days later in the Central Coast Section Division II Girls Basketball Playoffs.

Archbishop Mitty Prep-San Jose ended the Cinderella run by Lynbook, defeating the No. 6 seed 63-40 on Tuesday night at Oak Grove High in San Jose.

Mitty (22-7) opened the game on a 18-6 run, putting away its upset-minded opponent quickly in the first of two semifinal bouts held at Oak Grove Tuesday evening.

Lynbrook(16-11), one of four Cupertino-area high schools that host Cupertino residents, was the only local team left standing after Saturday’s quarterfinal rounds in the boys and girls basketball draw.

The lone semifinalist shocked No. 3 seed St. Francis High-Mountain View 39-32 on Saturday in the quarters and bested Sequoia High 45-25 the previous Tuesday in round two play.

Vanessa Garner and Vanessa Leo each scored 12 points for the Monarchs in the win over Lynbrook.

Lynbrook was led in scoring by Jackie Hudepohl who had a game-high 16 points. Emily Fong had nine points and Jordan Day scored six points.

Seniors Tammy Luan, Day, Kristen Richardson and Sahila Jorapur all played in their final game for the Vikings in the loss.
