GIRLS BASKETBALL: Lynbrook Stuns St. Francis in CCS Playoffs

Vikings get past Lancers in low scoring affair; move onto to semis.

A little halftime tinkering never hurt anyone.

Just ask the Lynbrook High girls basketball team.

Behind some key second half adjustments—most notably the press break—Lynbrook put together a strong second act showing en route to a 39-32 upset victory over No. 3 seed St. Francis High-Mountain View Saturday afternoon at Oak Grove High in the Central Coast Section Division II Girls Basketball Playoffs.

Lynbrook (16-10) will play Archbishop Mitty-San Jose on Tuesday in one of two semifinal games held at Oak Grove.

Jordan Day led the No. 6 seeded Vikings with 13 points in the win. Jackie Hudepohl added nine points, helping her team erase a five-point halftime hole.

Lynbrook took the lead midway through the third quarter and eventually led by five going into the final eight minutes of play. Rebounding the ball well in the second half, the Vikings took care of the ball and made the most of their opportunities on both sides of the floor.

Vanessa D’Amico scored 11 points for the Lancers. Hannah Rogers chipped in six points in a losing effort.

St. Francis (11-14) only scored four points in the third quarter and trailed by as much as 10 early in the fourth quarter.

Full court pressure by the Lancers late cut into the lead, but time ran out on any hopes of a comeback as the Vikings got the win to advance to Tuesday night’s semifinal round.
