The Little Leaguers from Petaluma are being honored by the big leaguers on the Oakland A's in a pre-game ceremony Friday following the team's exciting run in the Little League World Series.
The Petaluma National baseball team made it all the way to the U.S. championship of the Little League tournament on Saturday and overcame a 10-run deficit in that game before falling in extra innings. The team then won the consolation game Sunday, prevailing 12-4 over a team from Panama.
The boys will be honored before Friday's Oakland A's game against the Boston Red Sox at the O.co Coliseum, A's officials announced today.
Each Petaluma player will receive a ball signed by the entire A's team during the ceremony prior to the 7:05 p.m. game and then will take the field with the A's and stand with them during the national anthem.
The Little Leaguers will also shag balls in the outfield during pre-game batting practice and watch the game from luxury suites provided by A's outfielder Jonny Gomes.
Gomes is a Petaluma native and helped raise money to send the players' families to the Little League World Series in Pennsylvania.
Petaluma will hold its own celebration for the team on Sunday with a parade in the city scheduled for 1 p.m.
