When and Where to Watch Sharks Hockey

The first game of the shortened season is Sunday at 3 p.m. The entire schedule is posted here.

Whether you hold a grudge against the National Hockey League and its players for the lockout matters not—the first puck drop of the season for San Jose Sharks fans comes Sunday.

The Sharks’ first game is against the Calgary Flames, in Calgary, starting at 3 p.m. The team’s first home game is Thursday, Jan. 24, against the Phoenix Coyotes starting at 7:30 p.m.

The 2012-13 season is really just the 2013 season thanks to a lockout by the NHL against the players as they struggled to come to terms for a new Collective Bargaining Agreement, which was reached Jan. 6 after missing 113 days of the season. The normal 82-game schedule is reduced to 48 games.

There are some new faces on and behind the bench.

Right-winger Adam Burish is new to the Sharks from the Dallas Stars, but has a 2010 Stanley Cup ring from his time with the Chicago Blackhawks. Burish was a linemate of forward Joe Pavelski’s on their University of Wisconsin team that won the NCAA Frozen Four title in 2006.

New bench bosses include Hall of Famer Larry Robinson who becomes associate coach to head coach Todd McClellan, and Jim Johnson comes on as assistant coach.

Robinson achieved Hall of Fame status as a player and has a host of awards and impressive stats to support it. He has been an assistant coach and head coach for the New Jersey Devils and helped take the team to a 1999-2000 Stanley Cup win.

Johnson is a former NHL player and was most recently an assistant coach with the Washington Capitals.

The Sharks return to the ice with a new emblem on their helmets honoring the team’s original owner George Gund, III, who died on Jan. 15.

It's difficult to know what's going on in a kid's mind unless they feel confident enough to open upRead More and talk. And this program helps us adults to learn to listen differently.

I too was at this Challenge Day. It was my 6th. I first volunteered because I watched the programRead More on MTV "If You Really Knew Me" when my son was being severely bullied in middle school and saw the program was offered when he was a freshman in high school. My company strongly supports me volunteering for this and allows me to take the day off work to attend. I am continually humbled by what these teens share and saddened at what some of them have experienced in their short lives. This program is so valuable. I think every school should offer it and every parent should attend. It helps us to realize that we need to think twice before we judge or assume things about others when we know nothing about them. It is the volunteering opportunity that I look forward to participating in every year.
