Back to School and Friendship Day

Getting ready for the upcoming school year is an exciting time for kids. At Anne Darling, the children of Sunday Friends made beautiful back to school cards and gifts to give to their teachers to show how much they appreciate them. It was also a time where they learned to work extra hard to earn enough tickets for school supplies.

Friendship Day was also celebrated with a lot of enthusiasm. It gave our children an opportunity to extend their friendship and love to other people in the community. Special gifts like foam pencil cases and friendship bracelets were made by our children to be distributed to developmentally disabled seniors and children in hospitals.

Our guest for the day was Vanessa from the Santa Clara County Public Health Department. She taught a session which emphasized "Healthy Eating on a Budget". The class raised awareness that healthy eating does not have to cost more, but lies in making the choice of eating the right kind of food at the right price.

Our families were especially excited to welcome The Foothill Community Health Center at the program. Free dental screenings were offered to our families. Each participant was given a thorough assessment of their dental health, and if follow up care was needed, they were also given the opportunity to make appointments for free at the clinic.

"School is important for my children because it's a place where they learn many things but best of all they learn to be better people."
