Week Ahead: Master Gardners, Last Concert, Relay for Life

Here's a preview of the week to come in Cupertino.

Monday

Relay for Life Team - Flamingo is holding a Wine and Cheese Tasting.  Renegade Winery will be pouring.  Cost is $10 per person. Poolside at Cupertino Inn at  10889 N. DeAnza Blvd. Cupertino.  

Small-business workshop sign-up - Registration is open for the free July 19 small businesses or wannabes. The city of Cupertino is hosting a small-business symposium aimed at providing local business owners with the training and resources they need to grow and sustain their businesses in Cupertino from legal issues to social media. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. at the Quinlan Community Center, 10185 N. Stelling Road. For more information, visit cupertinosmallbizsymposium.eventbrite.com.


Basketball Camp at Fremont High School. Have a hole in your active child's schedule? The 32nd annual Fremont Basketball Camp opens half day camp July 8 to 12 with high school coaches Jason Townsend of Fremont and Craig Ellegood of Cupertino serving as camp directors. The camp emphasizes fun and fundamentals for boys and girls ages 5-14. Full-day camp dates are July 22-26, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., $220; and half-day camp dates are July 8-12 and July 15-19, 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m., $150. Wednesday
Master Gardeners: Beneath the Soil - Find out more about the subterranean part of your garden. Marianne Mueller will teach participants how to improve the quality of their garden soil through the techniques of composting, vermiculture, mulching, and the judicious use of fertilizers. Cupertino Community Hall,  7p.m. 

Thursday
Cupertino's Sandlot Social program is still open to residents ages 50 and over. It aims to resurrect the joys of baseball for the community. The fee to participate is $38 for the season and is open to residents and those in surrounding communities. Membership is required. Ask for Justin Cecil at the Cupertino Senior Center at (408) 777-3150 or visit cupertino.org/senior. Informal softball games and batting practices are held Thursdays from 9 a.m. to noon at Memorial Park's softball field near the senior center, 21251 Stevens Creek Blvd.

Last free concert of the season - Volifonix ends the summer concert series with a bang—in the hair-on-fire genre of hot/rock/funk, straight from the Pacific Northwest. Memorial Park, 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Saturday

Last-call registration for Cupertino's AYSO Region 35 for the fall season soccer play. The cost is $150 per player with a $10 sibling discount. Relay for Life - Sign up before Saturday to pledge, dedicate a luminaria, form your own group to get pledges, but participate at Cupertino High School. In the American Cancer Society's own words, "Relay For Life is a life-changing event that helps our community celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease." Walk, think, celebrate.
