@Jan Eric Nordmo, thanks for the citations on talking while driving. We cited one earlier when theRead More law enforcement campaign began, but these new studies will be informative to our readers as well.

Distracted driving behaviors (DDB) are shown through scientific journals, peer evaluated articles,Read More to have an adverse impact on attention and driving with a demonstrated increased correlation to accidents and injuries. Cell phone texting, driving with a cell phone in hand, smoking, eating, applying make-up, all have DDB characteristics that clearly demonstrate a danger on the road. Driving in a vehicle where I can see other drivers, I would estimate that 30-40% of drivers are experiencing (DDB). The only reason I see this is that I have to be on the look out, while in our RV, for the wondering driver (DDB). It (DDB) is a problem, sticking our head in the sand with media-science rather than real science will not make us any safer. In my opinion the challenge from this is getting worse. In Victoria Australia ('The Nanny State') they have been policing this for a while (undercoverRead More police on street corners radioing ahead to police ahead). What infuriates me, is no one makes a clear distinction between Texting, and talking on a phone. Texting is 20 times more dangerous, and I don't mind if they ban you from driving for life for that. Conversely talking on the phone is not as dangerous as allowing a mother (or dad) drive a car with young children in it. Are they going to ban that ? Police are allowed to talk on their phones, and much worse. Flippin Oprah started this campaign to ban drivers from talking on their phones. Meanwhile she is chatting away on hers, whilst been driven by her chauffeur.

This is so sad. Foster Children go through so much! Hope they get found, & get adopted from aRead More Loving, Patient, & Understanding Family. And find GOD to heal them.

I think the overriding issue peopple have with this case is that the boys' parents should haveRead More taught their kids empathy, morals and a snse of responsibility. At least they should have started with it NOW.
Sandra Hallhuber April 23, 2013 at 06:10 am
What a pathetic attempt to deflect responsibility from the boys. A prank Wonder how you'd call it ifRead More the exact same thing that happened to Audrie happened to you. If this is the type of feedback the boys will get from thier families, this 'prank' was probably just the beginning and they have a great future ahead in that field.

Yes, I agree, the parents should have checked with each other to confirm that their daughter wouldRead More be staying at a supervised home. I have an issue with both parents - parents of the girl who threw the party and with Audrie's parents for not checking with each other. It was noted in the lawsuit filed on Monday that they are suing the other family for negligence as their daughter was to be staying at Audrie's home while they were away for the weekend.

No racism in your comment, right? Race never enters into your thinking at all, I'm sure.

**** no wonder ., there is a colony of people from India. in Sunnyvale , Cupertino area., theyRead More bring each other hear on false document and guess what..? they have infiltrated the area and the company's....., and higher each other & the entire village as well.., mostly on false digress and qualifications..., the gullible Americans will never learn.

Simple presence in a crosswalk doesn't mean you're safe from getting hit... I've seen plenty ofRead More pedestrians step out in front of cars doing 35 mph, even causing collisions between other cars because the drivers have not time to react. You can't stop a ~3500 lb car in 10 feet. At the same time, folks in Cupertino are driving faster and faster, and ignoring posted speed limits. Put the 2 together and folks will wind up dead... I'm relieved I don't live there anymore when I hear about this, because I've had plenty of close calls, both while driving and walking.
Rose May 7, 2013 at 03:13 pm
Flashing pavement crosswalk lights could be installed to slow traffic down near schools and majorRead More intersections. Many towns have them and they are effective. You can't miss them when they are flashing.
Rose May 7, 2013 at 03:08 pm
I feel there are not enough pedestrian cross walks on Bollinger. Or another thought would be toRead More lower the speed limit. With the increase of the population in Cupertino it has become a speedway many streets. There are too many children and seniors crossing the streets. Many people STILL do not obey the "Hands free" cell phone laws. How many Cupertinans need to get hurt or seriously injured before something is put into place? Parents are afraid to let their children walk to school thus more cars on the streets.

@MetroCrusader: I'm not familiar with the history of crime in EPA nor the department. Perhaps otherRead More people who know more of the facts and can share.
Metro Crusader May 8, 2013 at 11:09 pm
Same old response from Cheif Davis, didn't he say the same thing several years ago when a child wasRead More his with gunfire in the Gardens? What has he done for the citizens of East Palo Alto, but make excuses. And Detective John Norden, wasn't he a WolfPack member? A gang member investigating gang members.
Claudia Cruz (Editor) May 7, 2013 at 11:55 pm
Jim! What are you doing getting moving violations! I used to live in New York City and it'sRead More unfortunate when quality of life issues can't get resolved right away because of higher priority calls. It makes people not trust that the police will help them when they need help.
Rose May 1, 2013 at 12:55 pm
Thank goodness for the aware customer and quick actions of the Starbucks employees in helping toRead More apprehend this woman. An innocent child or adult could have been severely injured.
