@Robin, that's a good point. I'd imagine this would start to spread around the athletic departmentRead More of a school.

This is a great start and I am happy to see it. I'd like to see all of the coaches trained in how toRead More watch for concussions, as a number of the girls on last year's soccer teams got concussions. I do realize that all sports (and other activities) carry risks, but it was clear that not all adults connected with the teams knew what to look for when a player was hit/knocked down.

The reason why Lynbrook was left off was because it's physically located in San Jose, but we canRead More include it in the future. I just have to let the various Patch editors know to add it to the list.
Mark Burns April 23, 2013 at 04:51 pm
No mention of Lynbrook because it is in San Jose. Monta Vista is #109 in the US, Lynbrook #136, andRead More Cupertino High is #336.

Where's LYNBROOK???
Poot April 13, 2013 at 06:31 pm
I would think if they're going to give everyone a zero, they surely better explain exactly what thatRead More security breach is, since it can't possibly affect the people who were taking the test at the same time.
Local Reader April 13, 2013 at 03:31 pm
They are taking this year's test in a week or so. Forbid cell phones obviously! Determine theRead More extent of cheating from last year and recalc scores if needed at all. Punish the dingbat kid who did it. Move on.

I think the overriding issue peopple have with this case is that the boys' parents should haveRead More taught their kids empathy, morals and a snse of responsibility. At least they should have started with it NOW.
Sandra Hallhuber April 23, 2013 at 06:10 am
What a pathetic attempt to deflect responsibility from the boys. A prank Wonder how you'd call it ifRead More the exact same thing that happened to Audrie happened to you. If this is the type of feedback the boys will get from thier families, this 'prank' was probably just the beginning and they have a great future ahead in that field.

Yes, I agree, the parents should have checked with each other to confirm that their daughter wouldRead More be staying at a supervised home. I have an issue with both parents - parents of the girl who threw the party and with Audrie's parents for not checking with each other. It was noted in the lawsuit filed on Monday that they are suing the other family for negligence as their daughter was to be staying at Audrie's home while they were away for the weekend.

Go, HYDE!! I've been an after-school coach (XC, track) here for five years and I love this school!Read More The teachers and staff are so dedicated to developing the "whole student", and while the academics are top-notch, every kid can find a place to achieve in something. I know one young man (and perhaps his little brother) going to a prestigious chef school because of a great cooking class at Hyde. I see artists and writers and musicians and athletes, scientists, mathematicians, engineers and technicians--and some kids who will work with their hands and do very well, as their parents have done. I predict a big chunk of teachers, too. They've been inspired by some of the best, and it shows. (My runners are eager, lively learners; they think my Thursday after-run history quizzes are fun!) Another thing I love about Hyde is the real diversity: I think there are more countries (and languages) represented at Hyde than at any other Cupertino school. Correct me if I'm wrong, but we have kids who are (or their parents are) from all over Asia, the Middle East, Europe and Africa, and throughout the the Western Hemisphere. And a good number whose parents grew up in Cupertino, too! It's a rich and wonderful place here at Hyde Middle School. I'm glad there's finally a big sign to show the world. Congratulations, Hyde! (Now, kids...bonus points if you can tell me: Who was Warren E. Hyde?)

Why isn't Cupertino Middle School on the top 4 middle schools in cupertino list
Anne Ernst (Editor) April 3, 2013 at 12:59 pm
It's difficult to know what's going on in a kid's mind unless they feel confident enough to open upRead More and talk. And this program helps us adults to learn to listen differently.

I too was at this Challenge Day. It was my 6th. I first volunteered because I watched the programRead More on MTV "If You Really Knew Me" when my son was being severely bullied in middle school and saw the program was offered when he was a freshman in high school. My company strongly supports me volunteering for this and allows me to take the day off work to attend. I am continually humbled by what these teens share and saddened at what some of them have experienced in their short lives. This program is so valuable. I think every school should offer it and every parent should attend. It helps us to realize that we need to think twice before we judge or assume things about others when we know nothing about them. It is the volunteering opportunity that I look forward to participating in every year.

A big "Thank You" to Anne, Pete, and 53 other professionals who opened up their companiesRead More and organizations to give our students hands-on experience of what life might look like for them post-high school. Job Shadowing brings relevance to education!
