At John Earl Records’ celebration of life service Thursday the flag did not fly at half-staff, it hung strung between two cherry picker City trucks in a nod to the work he performed for the City of Cupertino. Records, who worked for the city since 1994, died in his sleep Dec. 31. He was 44. A line to sign the guest book stretched the long hall to the Cupertino Room at Quinlan Community Center where about 300 people packed the room for the Thursday commemoration. “It’s awesome to see how many people John has touched,” said Fran Dulay to the crowd. Steve Jobs received warm tributes from comedy king Stephen Colbert last night. Colbert said "no one else could make me beg quite like him."
Sheena Marie Barker, 52, will be remembered for her caring ways and fun-loving humor.
Doing for others came naturally to Sheena Marie Barker; some say she found her calling in her profession as a caregiver. She “didn’t miss an opportunity to extend a helping hand,” says Susan Paluzzi, who met Barker, a Cupertino resident, about 10 years ago. “Soon after our introduction, I was called to go back east to New York because my father had a health emergency. Much to my surprise, I got a phone call at my dad's house that Sheena was in New York on business and did I need any help,” Paluzzi says. “She had gotten the information from my husband and was worried about me.
