Time for Outdoor Yoga

A homemakers' yoga class revelled in pleasant spring weather at Creekside Park.

It was a sunny and breezy Wednesday morning in Creekside Park. Spring radiated on the verdant lawn. So did a group of women, stretching themselves in all kinds of strenuous but smooth movement.

These women were homemakers of Japanese or Taiwanese origins in a yoga class taught by Hsiang-Hsiu Lin, a certified yoga instructor based in Cupertino.

Lin normally teaches yoga and jazz dance in the empty family room of her Cupertino residence, but she will take her morning class out at least once every spring to embrace nature.

"Yoga is all about nature," said Lin. "A lot of yoga moves originated from the way some animals move. Outdoor yoga brings you even closer to nature."

The outdoor yoga class on Wednesday was followed by a potluck picnic as a farewell party for one of the students, Naoko Unno, who is moving back to Japan later this month for her husband's job relocation, scheduled before the recent 9.0 earthquake hit Japan.

Unno said she is a little concerned about the radiation problems in Japan, but at the same time she is happy to reunite with her family, who survived the earthquake.
